CER in Bahrain?

Having announced a calendar of five races this year, the organisers of the Classic Endurance Racing series have told their competitors that they hope to be able to add a sixth date. This would be in Bahrain in late October or November, and an attractive transport package would be included. Priority will be given to season competitors. Mallock 50th Anniversary

2008 also marks the 50th anniversary of the Mallock marque, the founder, Major Arthur Mallock, having sold the first customer Mallock U2 in 1958. This confirms the Mallock marque as the longest-surviving racing car manufacturer in continuous production in the United Kingdom under the same family ownership.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, Mallock cars will provide the main events and focus of the 750 Motor Club Festival Weekend on 23-24 August at Silverstone. These will include a static display, a Mallock “allcomers” race on Saturday and a Grand Parade of Mallock cars past and present on Sunday morning.

The main event on Sunday will be The Mallock Gold Cup, a handicap race open to any Mallock car, from an original Mk.2 to the current Mk.35 “Synergy” Clubmans formula car.

Richard and Ray Mallock, sons of the founder, are making a special plea to all Mallock owners, including hillclimb and sprint cars, to bring their cars to Silverstone to race or display. “A magnificent celebration meeting for Arthur’s 75th birthday was run in 1993 and we would dearly love to surpass that large turn-out in August.”

Records show that a very high percentage of the 400-500 cars produced are still in existence, and many are still competing and winning on a regular basis.

If you own a Mallock and would like to support what Arthur Mallock and his sons have achieved over 50 years, by racing or displaying your car, please email Peter Burnham at Peterburnham@dsl.pipex.com. The Mallock Club website is at www.mallockclub.com.

Changes in the UK HTP Procedure

It is not only within the FIA that changes to HTP procedures are imminent. In the UK Marcus Pye will no longer be based at the MSA Building in Colnbrook, but will check the electronic templates at his home. Car owners will in future be required to pay the MSA fee (which is going up again) up front, being given a blank template and a list of inspectors to whom they will apply to have their cars inspected once they have completed the template and produced the photographs. The Inspector, it is believed, will then forward the signed copy of the completed HTP, the photographs and the electronic version of the HTP to the MSA. They, after Marcus checks all, will presumably send the electronic version to the FIA to acquire an FIA number.

Ferrari Sales

Ferrari SpA enjoyed a trading profit of 266 million Euros in 2007, a massive 45.4% increase over 2006. This major increase comes despite the fall in the value of the US Dollar, a currency in which some 30% of their sales are made. They sold 6,465 road cars.

Pau

Mark Campbell of the Aston Martin Owners Club has negotiated a one-hour, two-driver race for 1930s to 1950s Aston Martins at the Grand Prix Historique de Pau and is looking for as many French Aston Martin owners as possible to augment the already healthy grid of cars from the UK. He says, “We have all sort of treats lined up so there will be lots to enjoy”. If you have an Aston and would like to defend French honour contact Mark Campbell on +44 (0)1453 825791 or Email: mark(at)geode.uk.com.
