Classic Endurance Racing started its seventh season, on the famous Paul Ricard httt circuit, an important event for French enthusiasts, as with the exception of Nogaro in its first season in 2004, CER has never raced in France. A double first this year, because at the end of the calendar CER will be back at le Castellet in October for the new Dix Mille Tours meeting.
As a prologue to the Le Mans Series 8-Hours of le Castellet, the numerous public saw the exceptional CER grid, gathering the cars that wrote the history of endurance racing at Le Mans and on European circuits in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Porsche 935 "Moby Dick"; Ferrari 512 BBLM and BMW M1 – to name but the best known – are amongs the CER grids where once again, the level is extremely high: the times achieved by the "old" cars are often close to those of the Le Mans Series modern cars.
Many of the 50 cars entered this season have impressive histories. Holder of the CER title, Jean-Marc Luco’s Porsche 936 Martini Racing is well known by connoisseurs, having raced at Le Mans in 1977 with Jacky Ickx. Also entered is the unique Duckhams, the first car designed by Gordon Murray, for Alain de Cadenet who ran it at Le Mans in 1972, ‘73 and ‘74. Another rarity is the Cheetah G601, a BMW-engined prototype that raced at Le Mans between 1976 and 1979.
In 2010 CER will has five races, including the one in which all the drivers are impatient to participate: Le Mans Classic, where grids 5 (1966-1972) and 6 (1973-1979) are counted as official qualifying rounds of CER. Other circuits are Monza, Spa and Silverstone.
