The Automobile Club de Monaco has published its much awaited entry list for the May 10-11, 2008 Grand Prix Historique.

ERAs are expected to dominate race A for the Pre-1947 GP cars and Julian Bronson, a previous Monaco winner, will be hot favourite, driving Mac Hulbert’s famous R4D. This grid will include a very strong selection of Maseratis, with the following models entered: 8C 3000, 4CM, 6CM and 4CL.

Race B for Pre-1961 GP cars has only attracted 24 entries. The Lotus 16s will start as favourites, but with Gary Pearson’s BRM P25 on the grid, it looks like there will this time be someone to give them a run for their money!

Further to John Ure’s victory in 2006, the pre-1953 sportscar race has attracted a huge BMW/Bristol powered entry, with no less than six Frazer Nashes, four BMW 328s including ex-Touring car ace Dieter Quester’s and a couple of Veritas RSs. The C-Types of Nigel Webb and David Wenman are expected to be front-runners, together with Eddie McGuire’s Gordini T23S. Interestingly, the ACM has accepted a number of specials, including Barrie Wood’s RGS Atalanta and Simon Diffey’s Cooper MG, which could create a big surprise!

Race E For rear engined pre-‘66 Grand Prix cars is well supported with a vast entry of British made cars, mainly BRMs (P48, P57 and P261), Lotuses (18, 21 and 24, but no 25 or 33) and a big variety of Coopers (T41, 43, 45, 51, 53 and 66), as well as a couple of Lola MK4s. Brabham BT4, BT7 and BT11s will be strong entries, whilst Marco Cajani will drive the only Italian car in this group, an Alfa Romeo powered de Tomaso.

With a great number of entries, the Pre-‘79 Formula One race will be divided into two groups, up to 1974 and up to 1978, as per a couple of years ago. In the first group, expect to see Duncan Dayton’s Brabham BT33, Joaquin Folch’s McLaren M23 and Frank Sytner’s Hesketh 308 fight for a win. Giuseppe Bianchini will be back with his exotic Tecno Goral, while Nanni Galli will be reunited with the Tecno PA 123 that he raced in Formula One in period. Jean-Francois Decaux and Brad Hoyt will race the two Ferraris in this group, both early 312 models, respectively from 1967 and 1969. Two ladies will take part in this race: Judith Lyons (Surtees TS9) and Lorina McLaughlin at the wheel of a BRM P153, instead of her usual McLaren M23.

In the race for later cars, last-time’s pole-sitter Paul Edwards, driving Doug Mockett’s Penske PC3, will try and take his revenge on last year’s winner Martin Stretton driving his faithful Tyrrell P34, as the Penske ended up in the Armco after their contact in 2006. This grid will host no less than four glorious Ferrari 312Ts, from the early 1975 version to the latest pre-ground effect T3, as well as Hubertus Bahlsen’s Brabham BT45 Alfa Romeo.
